Medical and Community Chaplaincy was founded in 2018 to address a critical gap: spiritual care was confined to church buildings, while hospitals, prisons, schools, and communities were left without support. We changed that.
Since then, we have trained and deployed certified chaplains across all nine provinces of South Africa — serving in hospitals, SAPS precincts, schools, correctional facilities, and underserved communities. When a family receives a devastating diagnosis, when a community is shaken by violence, when someone faces their darkest moment alone — our chaplains are there.
And we do this entirely as volunteers. From Administrative staff to chaplains on the ground – we are all volunteers. Every chaplain serves out of calling, not employment. Every rand donated goes directly to training, resources, and deployment — very little goes to administration or overheads.
Medical and Community Chaplaincy is a registered Public Benefit Organisation approved under Section 18A of the Income Tax Act No. 58 of 1962, with effect from 27 May 2024. This means your donation qualifies for a tax deduction when you submit your annual tax return to SARS.
Upon receiving your donation, we will issue an official Section 18A receipt — this is the document you submit to claim your deduction. It is issued in your name, reflects the amount donated, and is signed by an authorised MCC representative.

There is something important you should know about Medical and Community Chaplaincy: no one here earns a salary.
From the founders to the field chaplains — every person in our network serves voluntarily. We are professionals, pastors, healthcare workers, teachers, and community members who have answered a calling to bring care to those who need it most. We give our time, our skills, and our hearts — because we believe this work matters.
What this means for you as a donor is straightforward: when you give to MCC, your money does not fund salaries or corporate overheads. It funds training manuals, chaplain deployment, venue hire for training, community outreach, and the resources chaplains need to serve well. Every rand reaches the field.

MCC chaplains are deployed — not just trained. After completing their certification, chaplains enter a compulsory field learning phase, joining experienced chaplains on active outreach. They then serve within their communities and institutions as part of the national MCC network.

Yes. Medical and Community Chaplaincy is approved under Section 18A of the Income Tax Act, with effect from 27 May 2024. You will receive an official Section 18A tax certificate after your donation, which you can submit to SARS when filing your annual tax return.
For EFT donations: send your proof of payment and your full name to admin@medicalchaplaincy.co.za and we will issue your certificate by email. For PayFast donations: please email us your name and payment reference so we can match and issue your certificate.
100% of your donation funds chaplain training, learning materials, deployment costs, and community outreach. Medical and Community Chaplaincy is entirely volunteer-led — no one in our organisation draws a salary. Your money reaches the field.
Yes. We welcome in-kind donations of goods and equipment relevant to our work. Please contact admin@medicalchaplaincy.co.za to discuss what is needed and arrange delivery. In-kind donations can also be receipted under Section 18A.
